Swimming with Ella

Saturday the 2nd of December me and Ella went to the Ngatea pools. We were there for about three hours and we went really wrinkly like an old granny.  We forgot to put sunblock on our shoulders and back so we got sunburned really bad.

We were there for about half an hour then Ashling came so we hung out with her until we went. We were doing gymnastics, playing tag and playing on the pool floaties. Then we had to go so me and Ella had to say bye to Ashling. After the pools we got some food at Hauraki Takeaways. It was delicious!

Weekly Reflection

Next week I would like to achieve my Shelfie milestone next week because I am so close to achieving it. This week I created at piece of art with Alexa for prize giving. I had fun playing Kiorahi yesterday because it was fun when I dived to try and score but someone ripped my tag. My goal for next week is to complete my BE Published milestone because I have sent about five pieces of writing to Upstart.

Cambridge Show

Last Saturday me Ella and Makalya did the Cambridge Show with our calves. Ella and I had to wake up early and get ready because we had to leave at 7:30am to go to Cambridge. When we got out to the farm I got my calf and washed her quickly.

When we had finished washing our calves we loaded them up in the trailer and headed to Cambridge. My calf did not poo in the trailer so I did not have to clean her when we got there. I had to go and register and my number was 26.

First was Leading. My calf just wanted to eat the grass so it was so hard control her. When I went into the ring she was being really sloppy so I did  not get anything. I was so happy though because Makalya got 4th out of twenty-seven people.

Next was Rearing. When I walked into the ring, there were so many people that there had to be people in the middle and calves were pooing over each other so it was really messy. When the judge came up to me, he asked me what my calves name was, when she was born, what diseases they could get and what would you do if they got a disease. After he judged everyone and made up his mind he put people in their placings. He put Ella in 1st and me in 7th. I was so happy to get a place in rearing because that's my strongest event.

Last was Diary Type and there were seventeen people in my ring. When the judge judged my calf he kept looking at my me so I knew I was getting something. Then he lined us up and checked our calves again. He put me in third place. I was happy that he put me in 3rd because I was up against Holstein Friesians.

Weekly Reflection

I enjoyed swimming because I love swimming and I have not been swimming in a long time. Next week I would like to achieve my Shelfie milestone because I have been working on it a lot this week to achieve it next week. I found my Mangahigh tasks challenging this week because I don’t really understand Ratios but I kept trying and I finally got a bronze on Ratios. I need to practice my swimming because I have not practiced in a long time.

NPS Athletics

Last week our school did athletics on Tuesday. My favourite event is Long Jump because I always get into HP for Long Jump. First we did High Jump which I hate High Jump because I am always scared of hurting myself. My first jump was so bad because I hit the bar and it was so low! The second time I went to jump I went to jump from the wrong foot so I stopped in front of the mat. My third jump, I finally good it and jumped over the easiest height.

We were about to do or next jump but we got distracted and we had to do our 100m sprint. I was in the easiest group so I only had to VS two fast people. I got 3rd for my 100m sprint and I had to go to the final. I got last in the final because I was up against hard people. When we went to go back to our High Jump we got distracted again and we had to do Long Jump.

My first jump was average. Then my second jump was 4.01cm. My last jump was average again but I came 3rd for Long Jump. Then it was the 200m sprint and we went over and got ready. I was in the easiest race again and I got 3rd. Then I made it into the 200m final but I got nothing because I was up against hard people.

Then, it was Shot Put time so I headed to the Shot Put area. We had three throws each with a practise throw. My highest throw was 5.40cm which is not that long. It was really hard to throw the Shot Put because it was really heavy. I did not get anything for Shot Put.

Then, I went back to High Jump and competed. I hit the bar three times so I could not carry on so while I waited I watched the other competitors. After all of the events we did a relay and I was in the 12+ girls. I was the starter for my relay and I did a good start. It was a really fun day at Athletics.

Weekly Reflection

Next week I would like to achieve my Shelfie milestone because I want to complete all of the milestones. I really enjoyed Athletics because I got to see some of my friends from different schools and I got to do long jump (my favourite athletics event). My behaviour this week has been really good because I worked in the quiet zone and I got heaps of my work done. My goal for next week is to complete everything in my grid.

Waihi Show

On Saturday the 11th I did the Waihi Show with Ella, Sarah, Emma, Makalya and Jessica. I had to wake up early again and we went out to the farm. Me and Ella were the first people there so we quickly wash our calves and waited for everyone else to come.

When everyone got out at the farm they washed their calves and loaded them up in the trailer. When we got there, they were not that dirty but I still washed my calf because there were spots of poo on her legs. Then, it was time to go over to the ring and start or first event.

My first event was leading. She did a really good lead but I did not get anything because she pooped in the ring and they put me down for that so I was really annoyed. No one from the Pirie farm got a ribbon and I was annoyed because everyone fro the Pirie farm did a good lead.

Next was rearing. The worst event for me. When I went into the ring, there were so much friesians that I nearly died! There were about fifteen friesians in my ring that I thought I was not going to get a ribbon. After the judge judged my calf she kept coming back to my calf. In the end she put me in 1st and she said my calf was beautiful.

Then, I walked out and got my calf extra clean for the champion ring. I really wanted a champion from the Waihi Show because I had never gotten a champion from the Waihi Show before. In the champion ring, the judges kept coming back to my calf so I knew I was going to get a champion ribbon. The lady put me in Reserve Champion because the other judge liked a jersey better than my calf.

Last was Diary Type and there were about twenty-five friesians in my ring. It was so hard because I was up against Holstein Friesians and Shorthorns. I did not get anything because it was so hard and the Holsteins won. I was so happy of what I had gotten anyway because I really wanted a champion from Waihi and I got one!

Rural Show

On Saturday the 4th of November I did the Ngatea Rural Show with my calf. I had to wake up early again. My dad came to watch and I had to wake him up early as well. I was really nervous about leading because it was really bad weather.

I got out to the farm and cleaned my calf and put tail wrap on her. Then we put her in the trailer and made our way to the show. They were so clean when we got them out of the trailer and luckily I did not have to clean her much.

I had to go and get registered and get my number. When I got back to my calf it was windy and raining so I just put her cover on her and sat down to have something to eat. I had some bacon and egg pie and some lollies.

Then, it was time to head over to the rings and get ready so I went over to my ring. There were about eight other friesians in my ring too. When it was my time to lead I lined up ready to go. After she finished the judge up people into their placings but I did not get anything because she pooped in the ring and the judge put me down for that so I was a little annoyed.

Next was rearing. When I walked into the ring the judge came up to me and he judged my calf. He said that she was brushed really nicely. Then he lined us up and put us into placings. He put me into 3rd place and I was pretty happy with what he gave me. It was hard competition.

Last was Diary Type and I walked into the ring. The lady judged me and said my calf was really nice. She put me into 2nd place which I was happy about. I had to wait around the champion ring just in case Sarah got champion. I was really annoyed because it started to rain and we were all soaked so much that we had to get changed after. I still had a really good day!

Weekly Reflection

This week I have achieved my IE for term 3 and I’m really happy about it. My highlight of the week was when I completed all of work because it feels good when I complete my work for the week. Next week I would like to achieve my Shelfie milestone because I’m working on completing all of my milestones. I really enjoyed athletics because I came 3rd for long jump and I’m really happy about that!

Group Day

Yesterday, the 1st of November was Group Day. It was at Kaihere school on the field. Me and Ella had to wake up at 6:00am and I was so tired. When we had finished getting ready we made our way out to the farm and caught our calves. My calf was not that dirty but her tail was green!

When I had finished washing, everyone had arrived and caught their calves. I did a little bit of brushing and put her tail wrap on her tail. I put her on the trailer and sat in the car. On the way there we stopped at Subway and I checked the calves. Elaina’s calf was at the end of the trailer so we had to retie her.

When we finished getting our subway, we made our way to Kaihere. There were heaps of friesians and a few jerseys. When I had got my number I cleaned and worked on my calf. Then it was time to head over to the rings and get ready.

First up was leading. I had to go last so I was really annoyed about that. She did not lead very well so I got a forth. I was still happy for what I got because it was really hard competition.

Second was rearing and I still hate rearing.I knew the judge that judged me and she is really nice. She knows I do a lot of work on my calf so she gave me first place. I was really happy because this is the best year for rearing for me.

Then, I had to go into the champion ring. I was competing with Ella again and there were three judges that were judging me. They kept coming back to me and Ella’s calf. I thought Ella was going to get champion but I got Champion! Brooke came into the ring to compete but Ella got Reserve Champion.

Last was Diary Type. When I went into the ring she judged the calves very quickly and there was only one judge in the ring. It took her about five minutes to judge us. She put me in 3rd which I was quite happy about because she isn’t the best for Diary Type.

Then, there was a special event. It’s called Team of Three. There has to be the same people from your school and same breed of animal in your team. I was with Elaina and Sarah because they lead really well. We had to walk in a straight line for a few meters and your calves had to walk good. There were about seven teams and we got second. I was so happy because it was really hard to get second when there were seven teams.

Weekly Reflection

My highlight of the week was going to Group Day because it was a fun and enjoyable day with my calf. My goal for next week is to complete my grid of things I need to do for the week. This week I have achieved my Give A Little milestone and I have been wanting to achieve it for ages! I enjoyed the Arts Festival because there were lots of fun things to do there!

Arts Festival

Today at school, my class got to go to an Arts Festival at HPC. I saw my Volleyball coaches Josh, Morgan and Paige. When we arrived there was music and a Kapa Haka group. After the Kapa Haka, there were people dancing and doing drama plays.

When they had finished me and Alexa walked around for a bit. We decided to get our face painted. We both got little goats on the side of our faces. Then we went and did a little bit of dancing. We were trying to look for Morgan but she had disappeared so we did some drawing instead. It was really fun and I had a good time!

Olive

My calf is called Olive and she is a friesian. I give her marshmallows when she is being good and she sometimes bites my fingers. I go out everyday and work on her. I brush, lead and wash her. Sometime I do a body wash a few days before a show on her so that the oil on her coat can come back. She is really shiny and the judges love her. Group Day is tomorrow so I’m hoping that she is going to do well. She leads really well but lately she has had a ear infection so she has had a few shots in her neck and now there are big lumps in her neck!

Weekly Reflection

I really enjoyed Calf Club because it was really fun walking around with my calf dressed like a granny. My highlight of the week was PE because I love doing PE especially training for Athletics. I made a good choice when I sat by myself and I completed some of my must-dos. Next week I would like to achieve my BE published milestone for the term.

Calf Club

Yesterday the 25th of October we had our school Calf Club. There were calves, kids and lambs. I did a calf and she is a friesian. Her name is Olive and she is really friendly. I woke up at 5:30 am and I was really tired.

My dad came to watch me so I had to wake him up early and he was not happy. I went out to the farm at about quarter past six and washed my calf. Then I put the tail wrap on her and put her in the trailer.

I went with Brooke and Elaina in the car and when we got there, me and Elainas calf had pooped all in the trailer so I had to wash her. Me, Brooke and Elaina were the first people there so we just collected some water from the water tap. Everyone started to arrive so I brushed and brushed and brushed.

First was Obstacle Course and I hate Obstacle Course so I was quite nervous. After my lead we waited to get placed. They placed me in second and I was really happy with that because I did not think she did well. Elaina got first to me so she went into the champion ring. She got Champion of Champion so I had lead again but I did not get Reserve Champion.

Next was Leading and I was excited for leading because it’s my favourite! She did really well in leading and I got 1st place! Then, I had to go into the champion ring. I hoped that she was not going to stop and I got Champion of Champion leading.

Third was Rearing and I had a little bit of time to clean my calf because I went into the champion ring for leading so I only had a little bit of time to clean her. I was so nervous because I hate rearing to so I did not enjoy going into the ring.

The old man that judged me liked my calf so he gave me first for rearing because he knows that I spend a lot of time on my calf. Then I had to go to the champion ring again and I was lucky enough to get champion rearing. I was so happy because I’ve wanted champion rearing for ages.

Last of all was Diary Type, (one of my favourites) and I went into the ring. When the judge came up to me she was judging and also training another judge at the same time. I thought that she smelt like curry every time she walked around me. She told us to line them up next to each other. She was compering me and Sarah's calf. Then, she put Sarah’s calf in first place and my calf in second place. We were so happy!

Then, I watched Sarah in the champion ring. I told her to try and get champion and she did! Then, I had to go in the champion ring and compete with three jerseys. I got Reserve Champion for Dairy Type. Me and Sarah were so happy and we high-fived each other.

After everything, there was a dress up where you dress your calf up or just put the ribbons on them and walk around showing everyone. I dressed my calf up as a granny and one teacher liked her t-shirt that she was wearing.

Last was prize giving. I sat with Ella and Sarah. We were all excited because we all knew that we were getting something. I got a trophy for champion leading, champion rearing and reserve champion for Diary Type. I also got Overall Champion out of all the calves at Calf Club. I won a big trophy with a nice calf cover and a huge ribbon. I was proud of myself and everyone that competed!

My Driving Question

The Matamata Show

I was so nervous driving out to the farm. I was wondering if she was clean or dirty. It was a Saturday morning and I had to wake up at 5:00 am for the Matamata Show. When we got there I caught my calf and made my way to the washing bay. Ella and I were one of the first people there so it felt really nice and calm. My calf was quite clean so it was easy to clean her.

When everyone had arrived they all caught there calf and went to the washing bay. By the time everyone got there Ella and I were finished washing our calf because we got there earlier than everyone else. I tapped my calf on her tail with this special tape that stops them from getting poo on their tail while being in the trailer.

I did a bit of brushing while waiting for the other people to wash their calfs. When everyone was done we loaded our calves up into the big trailer that was ready for us. My calf got to go at the back because she was one of the heavy calves. Once everyone had loaded I sat in the car with Ella and Alexa and we drove off.

While being in the car, I read my information book that I made for me and my calf and it has all of her information that I need to know such as: what injections they have, what do they eat, how much do they eat, etc. Apart from that I was so nervous and I was shaking.

When we got there we unloaded the calves from the trailer and my calf was not that dirty. I had to go and get registered and collect a number. That's when I realized that there were forty-five seniors and I started to get really nervous.

First up was leading. I was not to nervous for leading but I did want to know how well my calf was going to do for her first lead. Since there were so many seniors we all had to split up into three rings and two of us were in each ring. I was with Brooke lucky because she had a friesian.

I decided to go after Brooke because I wanted to know how well Brooke did before me. When Brooke had finished I lined up to go in the ring. Then the judge said to start. I took a deep breath and started leading.

Meanwhile, when I got out of the ring I was so happy that she lead well. There was a few people left after me so I had some time to brush and get ready for rearing. Once everyone had finished leading they called out the places. My number got put in 2nd place and I was so happy to get a ribbon for my favourite event!

Soon enough it was time for rearing. I had my calf prepared for the worst event and the most scariest event. When I walked into the ring I was the first person to get judged. He asked me what sort of injections they have and I answered all of them right. Then, he started putting people in there placings. I did not get a ribbon but I didn’t care.

Then, it was Dairy Type. I was not to stressed about that because they don’t need to be clean. I walked into the ring and presented her nicely. When the judge came up to me, he asked me a lot of questions. I answered them correctly and politely.

After he judged people, he started to put people in placings. He put me in fourth and I was really happy because there were a lot of friesians in my ring. I had a great experience!

Volleyball

For about three weeks my class has been going down to HPC to learn about Volleyball and how to play. There are 8 teams with three different coaches for each of them. In my team there has, Ella, Alexa, Luke, Finn, Callum, Neo and Layla. We won 4 and lost 3. My coaches were Paige, Morgan and Josh.  I learnt how to serve, dig and set. Something that our team needed to work on was to call for the ball because people are running into each other or leaving the ball. At the end of the tournament we had a mini prize giving and our coaches called out our names to come and collect a certificate. Then we did special awards and I got Most Improved. My goal was to learn more about Volleyball and I achieved that goal! It was a very enjoyable moment spending time at the college learning how to play Volleyball.

The Royal Easter Show

The first week of the holidays on the Friday I went to the Easter Show in Auckland. We had to leave early in the morning to get there at the Easter Show at a reasonable time. When we got to the Easter Show I meet Ella there and I watched her show her calf in the Supreme Champion ring. Then we walked around and had a look at the animals that were around us. My favourite animal was the baby chickens and the donkeys. I saw big pigs, and chickens were wondering around the place.

Then when we went outside I saw all of these scary rides and all of these games. Ella and I did a few games and won a few plushies and then we went to buy some coupons for the rides. The first ride we went on was a ride that you sit in a little cart and you spin around and go up and down. There were big long arms that connected to the carts. Once the ride finished Ella and I got off the ride and we were so dizzy that I just about fell down the stairs. After that ride I did not fell very well and was dizzy for the rest of the day. Then we saw what looked like a ride that was indoors. We lined up in the line waiting for a little cart. The ride was called The Ghost Train. We gave the man our coupons and sat in a cart.

We went through these large iron doors and when they shut, there was a loud CLUNK. Ella jumped in fright! As soon as we went to go outside something squirted on us and it gave us a fright! When we got of the darkness it was so bright that it hurt my eyes. Then we decided to have some lunch because we were all hungry. Ella and I got fish ’n chips from LJS. For fish ‘n chips and a drink it cost $10.00. After lunch I felt really full and did not feel well still. I saw a big blow up entrance that said Cadbury's. We were wondering what it was so we headed that way. At the entrance I saw a stand with these little cards that cost $2.00. The lady told us what to do when we find what we need to find.

As soon as we got inside the maze it started to rain so I had to put my puffer jacket on. First we had to find the Easter Bunny stamp. We went around looking for it and we finally found it. I lined up and waited for my stamp. When I got it the next thing that a had to look for was the Easter Egg. I found a long line and everyone was coming back with the Easter Egg stamp. When Ella and I lined up a lady had her umbrella up because it was raining through the maze and when she was putting her umbrella down she poked me in the eye and did not say sorry. I finally got the second stamp and got out of the huge lined that went for a couple of meters. Ella and I found a different coloured mat on the ground so we followed it and of course there was a big line and as soon as I saw the  line and I knew that I had got the last stamp. I lined up in the line and when it was my turn the lady took my stamp card and replaced it for a Cadbury’s car, a chocolate egg with Smarties in it and a little box of mini chocolate eggs. Ella and I were surprised and we decided to save them for Easter time so that we had more chocolates to eat at Easter time.

When we got out of the maze Ella saw this Fun Factory place and we headed our way to that. It costed 4 coupons so we handed our coupons to the man and went inside. I had to go up these stairs that moved and through these string things. At the end we had to take our shoes off and put them down a shoe shoot and then we went down a slide that was quite long. Then there were these clown games that you had to put these plastic balls in the clowns mouth to get a number. My number was 24 so I got to pick a prize. I got a few pencil’s.

I still felt kind of sick and dizzy so I did not eat much but after a few minutes I felt alright. Then, we walked around to find what we were going to do next. There was a Westpac helicopter going to take off so we headed over to the helicopter. It was really windy because it was getting ready to take off so people had to hold their hats. One person's hat went flying over to the ASB stand and luckily they court it for him. After the helicopter took off we donated some money and my mum bought a mini Westpac helicopter.

Then, I saw a big tent and I wanted to go inside and have a look. We made or way to the tent and people were bursting out of it. I thought that we were not going to get inside but we did and it was really hard to move around. One lady was not being very patient and pushed me into a stand of jewelry. Luckily I did not break any or I would have had to pay for them! Then, I could smell something and we all followed the smell. It was an ice cream place. There were oreo ice cream, jaffa ice cream every flavour of ice cream that you could imagine! I got a oreo ice cream and it was so yum!

Then, we had only three tickets left so we went on our last ride of the day. It was a ride that spun around really fast and then spun around backwards really fast. As Ella and I were lining up we were sweating and nervous about what was going to happen. When we sat in our carts Ella gave her glasses to the man and he gave Ella’s glasses to my mum. Then, the ride started and it went quite slow. Five minutes into the ride it started to go faster. I got really dizzy and it was so blurry. Then, it stopped and went backwards really fast. Ella and I were screaming so loud that it made everyone else scream.

After that ride we had to drop off Ella back at the calf club section. I did not want Ella to go but she had to because she had more showing to do. We got home at about 8:00p.m and I was very tired and still dizzy. I decided to have a shower and go straight to bed.

Weekly Reflection

My highlight of the week is when I did good on my reading assessment and I love reading assessments! I had fun when I was playing volleyball because I love volleyball and my coaches are really nice! My behaviour this week has been really good because I am sitting with the right people and I have finished all of my work for the week. I found my gloss test challenging this week because the questions were hard.
