I was so nervous driving out to the farm. I was wondering if she was clean or dirty. It was a Saturday morning and I had to wake up at 5:00 am for the Matamata Show. When we got there I caught my calf and made my way to the washing bay. Ella and I were one of the first people there so it felt really nice and calm. My calf was quite clean so it was easy to clean her.
When everyone had arrived they all caught there calf and went to the washing bay. By the time everyone got there Ella and I were finished washing our calf because we got there earlier than everyone else. I tapped my calf on her tail with this special tape that stops them from getting poo on their tail while being in the trailer.
I did a bit of brushing while waiting for the other people to wash their calfs. When everyone was done we loaded our calves up into the big trailer that was ready for us. My calf got to go at the back because she was one of the heavy calves. Once everyone had loaded I sat in the car with Ella and Alexa and we drove off.
While being in the car, I read my information book that I made for me and my calf and it has all of her information that I need to know such as: what injections they have, what do they eat, how much do they eat, etc. Apart from that I was so nervous and I was shaking.
When we got there we unloaded the calves from the trailer and my calf was not that dirty. I had to go and get registered and collect a number. That's when I realized that there were forty-five seniors and I started to get really nervous.
First up was leading. I was not to nervous for leading but I did want to know how well my calf was going to do for her first lead. Since there were so many seniors we all had to split up into three rings and two of us were in each ring. I was with Brooke lucky because she had a friesian.
I decided to go after Brooke because I wanted to know how well Brooke did before me. When Brooke had finished I lined up to go in the ring. Then the judge said to start. I took a deep breath and started leading.
Meanwhile, when I got out of the ring I was so happy that she lead well. There was a few people left after me so I had some time to brush and get ready for rearing. Once everyone had finished leading they called out the places. My number got put in 2nd place and I was so happy to get a ribbon for my favourite event!
Soon enough it was time for rearing. I had my calf prepared for the worst event and the most scariest event. When I walked into the ring I was the first person to get judged. He asked me what sort of injections they have and I answered all of them right. Then, he started putting people in there placings. I did not get a ribbon but I didn’t care.
Then, it was Dairy Type. I was not to stressed about that because they don’t need to be clean. I walked into the ring and presented her nicely. When the judge came up to me, he asked me a lot of questions. I answered them correctly and politely.
After he judged people, he started to put people in placings. He put me in fourth and I was really happy because there were a lot of friesians in my ring. I had a great experience!
