My Art Project

Milk Bottle Project

For the past two weeks our homework was to do something with a milk bottle. My idea is to do a elephant and stick pieces of paper around it. I’m going to do an even smaller elephant so there is a baby and a mother. I am nearly done but it is quite hard to stick the paper on because my elephant is curved and some of the paper is sticking up!

One of the hardest challenges was to cut out the elephant because it was an uneven shape and I didn’t know where to start. It was hard to pick an idea on what to do but I got some ideas off of Pinterest. I can’t wait to show it off to people at school!

Calf Club

Calf Club

Last Wednesday Ngatea Primary School had Calf Club. I took my calf Porsha. She’s a big fat Friesian calf. There were over 50 calves there it was hard competition. The day went good and it was nice and sunny but a little too hot at parts. My favourite part of Calf Club was when I was showing Porsha for Rearing & Handling and Dairy Type. I was not expecting to get 1st place for Rearing & Handling because there were good calves in my ring and it was hard for the judge to pick for the placings.

To look after my calf before Calf Club I had to lead her up and down the driveway and on the leading and obstacle course. Then I had to brush her heaps and wash her legs, tummy, bum, face and body. When she was being good and leading well I would give her a marshmallow. I even sometimes tease her with it to make her walk! The challenges that I had to face was trying to beat Hayley in the champion ring because she had a nice calf and it was really hard to beat her. I tried to overcome my challenge but in the end I didn’t beat her. The ribbons that I got were 2nd for Obstacle, 4th for Leading, 1st for Rearing & Handling, 2nd for Dairy Type and Reserve Champion for Rearing & Handling.

Learning In The Making Conference Day

Learning in the Making Reflection

Last Friday the Learning in the Making Conference was on again. I wore my bright yellow T-shirt for the Conference day on Friday. The workshops that I got into were Drink Bottle Craft, Reusable Shopping Bags, Team Building and The Mad Scientist Returns. My favourite workshop was Drink Bottle Craft because I liked how you got to pick your design on your drink bottle.

One skill that I learned on Friday was to work as a team in whatever you do and do not give up! I taught Ella that it’s OK to make mistakes. You can always try again next time. My less favourite workshop was Team Building because when we were playing games people were shouting and screaming at other people for doing a mistake.

My Holiday Recount

On Sunday Ella and I went to the Matamata Show with our calves. There were about 89 calves entered from all around Matamata. For leading there was 16 people in my ring but combined with Jersey’s and Friesen's. Before leading I decided to go second because the sky looked like it was going to rain and I wanted to get it over and done with. After my lead it started to rain and some people had to lead in the rain! When all of the people had done there lead the Judges added up all of the points and picked the placings. I got 3rd place but the Judge gave me a 4th so I had to find the boy who got 3rd and swap them around.

Then we moved onto rearing. Again we were combined with Jersey’s and Friesen’s and about 17 people in my ring. When I was in the ring the Judge came up to my calf and felt her coat and her tummy but did not look at her legs and bum! Then after that they added up all of the points. I got 6th place!

After rearing we then moved onto dairy type. This time it was just Friesen’s in this ring. There was a girl in front of me and her calf keeped sitting down so the Judge had to keep coming to get it up again! For dairy type I got placed as 3rd again. It was a great day and it was my first show with my calf this year!

My Term Reflection

My Term Reflection
What have you enjoyed the most this term?
  • This term I’ve enjoyed training for Cross Country because I like trying to beat my time each week. My best time was 10.37 and it was hard to beat. My worst time was around 13 minutes.
  • I’ve enjoyed doing my Book Club roles this term because Book Club is fun to do and you get to pick a role yourself. My favourite role is Map Maker and Word Master because Map Maker you get to draw a map of some sort and Word Master you get to find out the meanings for words.
  • I’ve also enjoyed Impact this term because I like picking designs and picking what sort of art we are going to do. For Impact we are doing Mosaic pieces with maybe some painting too.
What has been challenging this term?
  • This term one of the most challenging things for me was sharing my speech to my teacher because I’m not used to sharing speeches in front of people. There was three other people with me (Alexa, Georgia and Nikita).
  • My IXL tasks has been challenging for me this term because my maths group (The Abby Cadavvy’s) have been learning hard things this term.
  • I also think athletics training has been challenging for me because when I do relays it’s hard to receive the baton and pass the baton.
What are you looking forward to next term?
Next term I’m looking forward to Calf Club and the year 6 Rail Trail because I’ve never done the Rail Trail before and I’m really excited and Calf Club because I keep wondering what ribbons I will get.

Cross Country

Cross Country
This week on Monday it was NPS Cross Country day. I did really well and got 6th place. I was versing Year 6 and 7’s but some of the year sevens were 11 years old. We were supposed to do the Killer Hill but Mr Fraser thought that we were 10 year olds and got confused so we did not have to run the Killer Hill. We did 3 laps around the farm and when we got to the end I had to run up a little hill. If you got 1st-10th then you got a number on your hand but if you got over 10th you got a ice block stick and you put them in your house colour box. When I was running I felt really tired because I’d just finished going up a hill. I was so tired that someone passed me but I stayed right behind them. My training really helped me with running at Cross Country because I sometimes bet my time some weeks. I made it into HP and I’m really excited about going because I want to have fun and enjoy myself. My goal for HP next week to pace myself because sometimes I don’t pace myself.

Ice Skating

On Thursday at 1:00 p.m I went Ice Skating in our school hall. The set-up was quite cool. I slipped over 7 times and the 3rd time I slipped over was when Ella high fived me and she gripped onto my hand and that made me slip backwards. Every few minutes the bubbles would come on and I kept trying to pop the bubbles with Ella. It was funny because Ella was dancing to the music and she fell over on her butt! The side of the ice skating rink was like a blow up castle and the ice was not real ice. The lady told us the rules and what you needed to do when you fell over. The ice was made out of plastic and there were big thick slabs of it. I did all right but it took me a while to get into the middle but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. We had to wear helmets, gloves and ice skating shoes that had steel type of bottoms.

About My Art Work

This term for art we did string art. First I picked my design which was a duck and put it on a doc. Then we printed it out and stuck it on a piece wood. I drew crosses on the corners of the duck and nailed nails on the crosses on the duck. After that I picked a coloured wool that was yellow and and started twisting the wool from one nail to the other. It was hard because sometimes the wool keeped undoing and you had to keep doing two loops around the nails.

Once I did the wool I started to rip the paper off of the wood. But it was hard because it was so tight that when I keeped ripping it off little bits of paper was still under the nails. I came up with the duck because I was looking at animal string art and I found the duck. Why I picked the duck was because I wanted something with yellow in it and something that was an animal so I found the duck and it was yellow. I was going to do a orange beak but there was no orange. I found a brown and started the beak but it keeping coming undone because there was too much wool on the nails that the brown wool was going to go on.

Sports Post

On Saturday I played soccer. We played Turiua and we lost 3-6. There were not enough 11th graders so there had to be some 13th graders in the other team. It was not very fair in the end because they were dirty players and they were one of the best teams that we've played before. I was put in defence and it was hard because the other team kept the ball on our side so I had to try and get the ball off of them. Next game I'm going to try and work on not kicking the ball just anywhere and passing the ball to my team mates.

PMI about iDrive

PMI

Interesting
The thing that I found awesome in iDrive time was that we were all working together and we had no fights at all but the game was hard. I also liked how an older kid came and taught us a new game that was called Cheat and it was really hard.
The minus for iDrive was that Bree only taught us one game and we really wanted to play more than one but we kept playing the same game over and over again.
The one thing that I found interesting was that we all got together well and did not disagree with each other.

Holiday Recount

In the holidays Ella and I went to Rainbows End. When we entered the park we got our tickets and raced over to take a picture of the sculpture of Kung Fu Panda. We went over to the Pirate Ship but the line was to big so we went over to the Fear Fall. The other side of the Fear Fall was not working so we had to go on the other side. Mum, Ella and I sat in the seats and we put the bar down and clicked ourself in. We went up slowly until we were at the top of the Fear Fall. We could see the whole of Auckland and a lot of houses. We were talking because we were scared of how high it was. Then it moved a bit and then we went down. Ella and I started screaming. We stopped at the bottom with our eyes watering. After that ride we went to the Movie Monitor. When we sat down we put all of our loose items into a box. We put our seat belts on and waited until the movie started.

Ella and I were gripping onto the handles so that we did not fall off. When it started our chair was moving all around the place and it looked like we were inside the movie. Then we went on the Log Flume. Ella and I saw a girl that we knew called Amber and she was going on the Log Flume too. Ella, Seira and I sat in one of the logs. We had to get in the log quickly because it was still going and I nearly forgot my bag. Ella was really scared of going down the Log Flume because she is scared of heights. We looked at our photo after the Log Flume and it was ugly! We went on the Invader. It was not very scary though. Ella and I did not scream.

In the second part of the holidays I went to my dads. I went to Dargaville and it took about 4 hours to get there. When we got there it was about 6 p.m. The next day we went to the beach with my friends. We climbed up a mountain that took about 30 minutes and took some pictures of the view. My dad was down on the beach and he looked like a spot because it was so high up. The next day I went to the Warehouse and got some things. After that I went to play with the cows. There were two cows that needed to be killed and they were cross breeds. There was a girl cow and she was a Friesian that was really spotty and there was two black cows and they were brothers. Every time I went to run, they ran with me because they thought that they were going to be moved.

Easter

Easter

Good Friday is a day before Easter that the Crucifixion of Christ is commemorated in the Christian Church. Easter Sunday is the day that the Easter Festival is celebrated. For Easter my family does not have any traditions, we sometimes sit down and watch an Easter movie or maybe sometimes I go to my dads for Easter and we go shopping. The Easter bunny does visit my house all the time but I'm getting a bit older now so he will start to bring less every time. We have hot cross buns because Jesus was hung on a cross and it represents the cross Jesus was put on and now Easter eggs can be handed out.

My Letter To Mrs Taaffe

Hi my name is Summer Elizabeth Warmington. I’ve been at Ngatea Primary School ever since I was five. I was born in Thames (6th June 2005) and I have a brother, his name is Zane and he lives in Thames with his wife Maree. He is already been married and he is 26 years old.

I am growing up in Ngatea. My most favourite subjects are PE, writing and reading. I love reading and read heaps of books on the weekend. We live on a farm yet I've never lived on a farm before in my life! My favourite types of animal are dog’s (pug’s) and parrot’s.

My favourite sport is soccer and tennis yet I’ve not played tennis before in my life but I really want to start playing this year. We moved a couple of months ago to a farm down River Road. I've broken my bones about three times about. I broke my arm by falling off a trampoline, broke my wrist by doing a handstand and fell the other way and I broke my finger by playing in the pool and we were playing a game.

I also do hip hop and tap dancing but my teacher is having a baby so I can not do hip hop and tap this year. My favourite type of food is chocolate and subway. When I was a baby my first word was “Dada”.

PMI about this week

Plus

Interesting
The thing that I most enjoyed this week was going on the pool toy. I also liked swimming sports that was on Tuesday because I got to meet some people that were from others schools. There was a girl called Summer in my breaststroke and freestyle race!
The thing that was a bit boring this week was the rotation because I did not like the music and people were being silly when we were making beats to the music. Next we rotate again to the next group. The groups were art, science, music and social skills.
The thing that was the most interesting this week was swimming sports because I liked how I meet and made new friends from different schools. They were really nice to me and they had really good sportsmanship!
We went to Thames for swimming sports.

Swimming sports

Last Wednesday was swimming sports day for my school. We went down to the pools that morning and started our races. First I did free style then backstroke and then breaststroke. I started free style but when I got up to my second length I was really tired. But I still got 2nd place after Holly. Then we moved on to backstroke. I nearly hit the lane rope but I quickly moved before I could hit it. I got a tie with Mischa but I don't know what placing it was. We then moved on to breaststroke my favourite stroke! I got 1st and I was up against very hard people. At the end of the day I was very happy with what I got and hoping to get into Hauraki plains.

The day after swimming sports I got a notice saying that I'd got into Hauraki plains. I was really happy that I'd got in. I got in for 2 lengths breaststroke and 2 lengths free style. HP was yesterday and there were a lot of schools there. We started doing breaststroke. For breaststroke I had to be up against two boys that were really hard to VS. I had to VS Miles and this other boy from another school. I came 3rd but since I was the only girl in that race I got 1st. Then I had to wait for a while for my next race. Then my race finally came and I lined up ready to dive. I was up against Holly again and I got 2nd again. I hope I get into Thames Valley witch is next Monday.

PMI about this week

Plus: This week has been awesome because we had a week off of school work. The thing that has been really cool for me this week is doing the team building at the end of the day. We do a lot of different activities like games with hoops and games that involve towels. I thought the team building was a really creative idea.

Minus: The thing that was my less favourite thing was doing the quiz that we did this morning because it was a bit hard at times, and some questions were a bit to easy. There were 20 questions on the doc to answer.

Interesting: The thing I thought was interesting this week was meeting all of the new people that came to the school. I meet a new friend called Riana and she is really nice and sometimes funny too!!!
