Calf Club
Last Wednesday Ngatea Primary School had Calf Club. I took my calf Porsha. She’s a big fat Friesian calf. There were over 50 calves there it was hard competition. The day went good and it was nice and sunny but a little too hot at parts. My favourite part of Calf Club was when I was showing Porsha for Rearing & Handling and Dairy Type. I was not expecting to get 1st place for Rearing & Handling because there were good calves in my ring and it was hard for the judge to pick for the placings.
To look after my calf before Calf Club I had to lead her up and down the driveway and on the leading and obstacle course. Then I had to brush her heaps and wash her legs, tummy, bum, face and body. When she was being good and leading well I would give her a marshmallow. I even sometimes tease her with it to make her walk! The challenges that I had to face was trying to beat Hayley in the champion ring because she had a nice calf and it was really hard to beat her. I tried to overcome my challenge but in the end I didn’t beat her. The ribbons that I got were 2nd for Obstacle, 4th for Leading, 1st for Rearing & Handling, 2nd for Dairy Type and Reserve Champion for Rearing & Handling.
